Business Needs

The client was looking for a team that could continuously deliver cabinet shop drawings for their manufacturing unit with high quality documents. As a result, they were looking for CAD drafting experts with specialization in furniture detailing and CNC machine coding and for uninterrupted manufacturing.

Challenges

  • Several missing details in architectural plan drawings called for frequent RFIs and designer intervention
  • Tackling delays in collaboration against a very tight delivery schedule to provide continuous inputs for the shop floor
  • Acquire project-specific skills in Imos IX for generating accurate manufacturing inputs

  • Initially one engineer was assigned to the project to understand the architectural plans and develop necessary cabinet shop drawings.
  • Requests for hand sketches and any other reference documents for the project was requested by the project engineer.
  • As the Imos IX software was new for the project team, the client trained the lead engineer in efficiently using the software’s features and functionalities.
  • Once the training was complete and more clarity was established in the scope of work, the team size was increased by five more CAD specialists.
  • Design detailing like need for drawers, handle design, sliding doors, hinges etc. were communicated with the client as well as the end customers to initiate development of detailed drawings using Imos IX.
  • This accelerated the turnaround time due to software’s inbuilt functionality even for the most complex designs of cabinets in tight corners.
  • Use of Imos IX ensured that any changes in designs were updated with security without compromising the original design intent.
  • Final outputs – production-ready drawings – were generated that had clearly defined sections, tolerances, allowances and need for hardware along with interpretation drawings.
